From nothing at all
to walking football.

They didn’t just transform my life; they saved it.”

Chunkie Case Study

A Grandad, a Wanderers Fan, and a Life Saved.

Chunki is a proud Boltonian, Veteran, a lifelong Bolton Wanderers fan, and a cherished member of Transforming Lives (TL). Known affectionately as the “Grandad” of the group, Chunki has become the cornerstone of the TL community, embodying its spirit of togetherness and support.

Chunki’s journey with TL began a couple of years ago, following in the footsteps of his grandson Sheldon. Chunki quickly immersed himself in TL’s activities, from walking football—where he’s both a player and a team official—to enjoying Meet and Eat sessions with his entire family. These gatherings have become a treasured space for multiple generations to connect and create lasting memories over a warm meal.

In 2023, during a football session, Chunki suffered a heart attack. With an ambulance delay of over an hour, the TL team acted swiftly, driving him to the hospital themselves. Their quick response not only demonstrated their dedication but also saved Chunki’s life. After nearly a week in the hospital, he returned to TL activities, feeling safe and supported.

Today, Chunki is more active than ever, finding immense benefits for both his physical and mental health.

Transforming Lives isn’t a group,” he says. “It’s a family. We all look out for each other. Not everyone has that.”
